Hey everyone,
So, firstly hello, I'm Adelaide you can call me Ads and i'm your Vice President in charge of communications in your Students' Union (SUBU).
So you may be wondering why we have set up Blogs all of a sudden? After all the hectic-ness and fun that was the Freshers' period I spent some time looking over my manifesto which got me voted into this position in the first place and realised that although I had put a lot of time and energy into helping creating the Freshers' mail out, doing induction talks, publicise the events at the start of term and launch not only the new ground floor space in Poole House atrium but also the new newsletter 'The Word' (www.subu.org.uk/theword) I hadn't addressed many of the issues I spoke about back in March during the election period.
Now although Blogs came up quite low on the communications survey myself and the comms department did last July both myself and Bryony (a newly elected member on the Exec committee) felt it was important we set these up. The main benefit of having these blogs is so you can hold us officers to account, ensuring that we're delivering for you and also it gives you a forum to let us know how you feel about your Bournemouth Experience. So please comment away!
So aside from the above what have I been up to? Well I’ve been keeping the website up to date (hopefully), co-ordinating the newsletter fortnightly, assisting Fred in running the by-elections, working with Scott to ensure we get you information about Plagiarism (look out for helpful flyers next week), attending Open Days and with the help of the communications department I have helped recruit you to get involved with the communications committee, who will be assisting me throughout the year to ensure communication between us and you improves.
Alongside this I've been working with my Exec team (Laura, Steven, Tufan and Emily) to help them achieve their goals over the year. We worked hard on 'I love BH' week to make sure we helped raise awareness of living in the community. I am attending the Winton Community Forum meeting tomorrow night to represent you to the community of Winton, who have mixed opinions of the student impact. My team has been down to the Lansdowne campus and have made plans to brighten up the SUBU area in Bournemouth House and planning to make signage to ensure that if you study down at Lansdowne you know whereabouts we're based and what we can do for you.
Finally, I’ve worked closely with the PR team of the university to enhance the media presence SUBU has. Especially with the world record last week, Freshers and all the volunteering work we do we've had loads of coverage from BAMMJ interviews, local radio and press, to CNN and the BBC, which is great!
So, I'll stop rambling now, I just want you to all know I'm still working on streamlining the communication of your Union, mainly ensuring that we use email and facebook more effectively so it doesn't bug you.
I will write again next week but in the meantime if you wish to feedback anything about the way your union communicates to you please do.
You will see an email in the near future asking your opinion on the topical issues which we will be discussion in the Student Experience Committee so please do contact me about that. Also if you ever need any help publishing anything don’t hesitate to drop me an email on suvpcomms@bournemouth.ac.uk
Thanks,
Ads x
