Something needs to be done!

Hey,

I just thought i'd write a little something about my experience tonight. This evening saw my first Winton Community Forum meeting! When we arrived I ended up sitting on the panel with the head of the University accommodation, councillors and a police representative.

The topic of the meeting was 'The Student impact on Winton', at first I felt this was a bit unfair to be negative, however after listening to over 40 residents in the room, about their concerns, experiences and feelings I realised that as a Union, along with the University and the Council we need to raise even more awareness about living in the community.

Our 'I love BH' campaign was the beginning of what needs to be a much bigger project. I was introduced to many influential people and hopefully in the near future Scott, myself and Fred will be able to arrange productive meetings.

I spoke in the meeting, agreeing that Private Landlords and Estate Agents also need to take responsibility alongside us, the Council and the Uni to ensure that anti-social behaviour is addressed.

The residents of Winton spoke out and said they realise it is a small minority that cause the problems and I agree it is a shame the few spoil the relationship for the many, however this doesn't mean it should be push under the carpet.

I believe we need to work with the council on a funded community project to ensure something gets done. After all I've enjoyed living in the area for 4 years, and although I may not be classed as a resident, I feel Winton is my home, as I'm sure do the majority of you! I just hope we can all move forward and attack this issue head on.

That's my little bit about this evening (just felt you should be filled in)

Any ideas about what we can do please email me on suvpcomms@bournemouth.ac.uk

Thanks,
